Every rupee lives in one of four pillars

Kakeibo sorts spending by why you spent, not only on what. Once you see the split, you know exactly where your money is going.

Needs
Rent, groceries, CEB bill, bus fare, school fees
Wants
Eating out, new clothes, streaming, gadgets
Culture
Books, courses, dana, a trip to the hills
Unexpected
Bike repair, hospital visit, a wedding gift

One calm rhythm, every month

  1. 1

    Plan

    On salary day

Write your intention for the month, set a savings goal, and give every rupee a job in an envelope.

  2. 2

    Track

    Every day, five seconds

Log each expense as it happens. Pick a category, and if you like, tag how it felt: joy, neutral or regret.

  3. 3

    Reflect

    On the last day

Answer the four Kakeibo questions with your real numbers and choose one small Kaizen step for next month.

Seven Japanese money wisdoms, built in

Each one is a feature you use, not a quote on a wall.

家計簿

Kakeibo

The household ledger. Write down every rupee, sort it into four pillars, and reflect at month end.

Every category belongs to Needs, Wants, Culture or Unexpected. Each month opens with an intention and closes with the four Kakeibo questions.

積立

Tsumitate

Small, steady accumulation. Save a fixed amount every month, automatically, and let time do the heavy lifting.

Goals with a monthly tsumitate amount, the exact sum needed to reach a date, and a progress ring that fills month by month.

もったいない

Mottainai

What a waste. Respect what you have. Small leaks sink big ships.

A waste detector that finds small repeating purchases, unused subscriptions and spending you tagged as regret, and shows their cost over a year.

高嶺の花

Takane no Hana

The flower on the high peak. Admire beautiful things from a distance. Buy fewer, better ones, on purpose.

A wishlist with a cooling-off timer of 1 to 30 days. If you skip the item, its price is counted as money saved by restraint.

親指交換

Oyayubi Kōkan

Family as a safety net. Plan money together, so one emergency never becomes everyone’s crisis.

Shared family workspaces with roles, shared goals for education, weddings and homes, and an emergency fund measured in months of needs.

収入日誌

Shūnyū Nisshi

The income diary. Record every rupee you earn, not only what you spend.

Income tagged by source (salary, business, freelance, side hustle, gifts, windfalls) with a diversity score that shows how safe your income is.

瞬間を生きる

Shunkan wo Ikiru

Live the moment. Saving is not the goal. A good life is. Spend joyfully on what matters.

Tag each purchase as joy, neutral or regret. See how much of your money creates real joy, then protect that spending and cut the rest.

Questions people ask

What is Kakeibo and does it work in Sri Lanka?

Kakeibo is a Japanese household budgeting method from 1904. You record every expense in four pillars (needs, wants, culture, unexpected) and reflect at the end of each month. It works with any currency because it is about awareness, not banking. Ithuru adapts it for rupees, Sri Lankan bills and festivals.

Do I need to connect my bank account?

No. Ithuru works without bank connections, so your login details never leave your hands. Adding an expense takes about five seconds, and the habit of writing it down is what makes Kakeibo work.

How much does Ithuru cost?

Lite is free forever for one person. Personal Pro is Rs. 490 a month and includes family sharing, unlimited history and full Sensei advice. Business plans start at Rs. 2,490 a month. Every new account gets 30 days of Pro free, no card needed.

How do I pay?

Monthly payments are processed securely by PayHere using Visa, Mastercard and other supported methods. You can cancel any time from the Billing page, and your plan stays active until the end of the paid month.

Can my family or business team use the same account?

Yes. Create a family or business workspace and invite people by email. Owners and admins manage accounts and categories, members add transactions, and viewers can only read.

Is my financial data safe?

Passwords are hashed, connections are encrypted with HTTPS, sessions can be revoked from Settings, and you can export or permanently delete your data at any time, in line with Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act.

Is there a mobile app?

The Ithuru app for Android and iPhone is on its way and uses the same account, so a transaction added on your phone appears on the web instantly. Until then, the web app works well on any phone browser and can be added to your home screen.

How is Ithuru different from YNAB or other budgeting apps?

Ithuru combines envelope budgeting with the Kakeibo method, prices in rupees from Rs. 0, works without bank feeds, gives advice in plain language from your own numbers, and includes team workspaces for small businesses.
